Ferries to Ibiza
There are three operators that offer ferry services from the Spanish mainland to Ibiza – Acciona Transmediterranea, Balearia and Iscomar. For the purposes of driving to Ibiza from the UK, Barcelona is the ideal port – although you could sail from Valencia if you wish to drive further south and have a shorter ferry journey.
Iscomar and Trasmediterranea both sail from Barcelona to Ibiza town port, whereas Balearia offers crossings from Barcelona to San Antonio port. Costs and times vary depending on the day of the week and time of year.
We travelled from Barcelona to Ibiza with Acciona Transmediterranea. They have three sailing departures at 3pm, 4pm and 9.30pm – only one or two of these sail per day, depending on the date of your travel.
The first sailing departs Barcelona at 3pm and arrives in Ibiza just after 8pm. The second sailing is slightly longer as it travels via Palma, departing Barcelona at 4pm and arriving in Ibiza town port at 11pm. On certain days there is also a 9.30pm sailing, which arrives in Ibiza at 6.30am the following morning.
The total cost for 2 adults with a car is around £280, depending on the time of year. Night sailings tend to be cheaper – although if you wish to book a cabin to sleep in, the ticket cost will at least double.
Be aware that despite the lengthy sailing time, there are few facilities onboard so do not rely on an onboard restaurant service or entertainment. The boat we travelled on had one small drinks bar, a tiny shop plus one small snack bar that sold only mini pizzas and a few pastries. However, there are plenty of seats available and the boat is spacious enough to have a brief walk around to stretch your legs.
